Maison Prosper Maufoux is a traditional negociant eleveur started in 1860 and located in the Burgundian village of Santenay; the southern most appellation or village of Burgundy.
Prosper Maufoux was from a prominent family that included a mayor of Beaune, which is the capital of the Burgundy wine trade.
As a negociant eleveur, Prosper Maufoux purchases either grapes, must or wine from individual growers, ages the wines in casks and barrels in the Maufoux cellars in Santenay, then bottles and labels the wines under the Maufoux name and markets them worldwide
Over the years Maufoux has branched out beyond Burgundy into other French wine regions including appellations of the Loire Valley, Rhone and Beaujolais.
