Cote Chalonnaise

Named after the industrial town of Chalon-Sur-Saone, this region is similar to the Cote D’or regarding the soil and climate, however its appearance is quite distinctive; The vineyards are interrupted by open fields, meadows and woods. There are five main appellations in this region; Bouzeron, Rully, Mercurey, Givry and Montagny. Bouzeron is known for producing Aligotes that are far superior to those produced anywhere else due to the unique composition of the soil. The wines are flavorful and creamy. The other villages produce wines out of Gamay, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. The reds are light with undertones of strawberries and cherries and the whites are fresh and clean with applelike Chardonnay fruit.
